Bijou Show-House owner, Beach, ND, resident and city council candidate, Emanuel Culman, has been written up in a section of the non-fiction book, YOU-TURN, by Dr. Nancy Irwin.

Previously a resident for 34 years of Los Angeles, CA, Emanuel, quickly followed by his wife, Cheryl Planert, relocated to North Dakota in 2005.

The entry in Dr. Irwin's book, YOU-TURN, about people who make sizable changes in their lives, evolved through mutual acquaintance, author Chelley Campbell.

As a footnote, Emanuel tells anyone who will listen that he has to pinch himself sometimes to convince himself that he resides in such an amazing and wonderful part of the world ... and that he is not simply a tourist who will have only photographs and memories of the remarkable folk who are his friends and neighbors!

A former stand-up comedian and opera singer, Dr. Irwin knows a thing or two about change. Her book shares true stories from a variety of people, and also includes professional tips on navigating change.

FIRST ANNIVERSARY OF BIJOU SHOW HOUSE REOPENING CELEBRATING WITH HALF-PRICE POPCORN AND “OFF THE BEATEN PATH”

BEACH, ND – The BIJOU Show House in Beach, ND, reopened March 17, 2007. To celebrate this first anniversary, owner Emanuel Culman will offer half-price popcorn to customers for the weekend of March 14-16, 2008. The celebrations begin with Cliff Naylor for his show, “Off the Beaten Path”, at the BIJOU and Emanuel’s wife, Cheryl Planert, showing her Kundalini Yoga class. The show will air on the evening of Friday, March 14, as part of the 5 o’clock (MST) News broadcast over KFYR-TV. The movie for the weekend is Walt Disney’s “National Treasure: Book of Secrets” playing Friday, Saturday, Sunday at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday matinee at 4:00 p.m., March 14, 15, and 16, 2008, at the Bijou Show House, 82 1st Street SE in Beach, ND

“The year just flew by,” exclaimed Emanuel Culman, owner of the Bijou Show House. “People have been really patient while I did repairs and changes to the infrastructure. As we begin the cosmetic alterations, the audience has started to grow, especially from Glendive, Wibaux and Baker in Montana, and from Dickinson, Belfield and Medora in North Dakota. It is wonderful to see people enjoy great entertainment, tell their friends and have multiple return visits. We have a sizable steady following for the movies now.”

Part of the BIJOU’s success, Culman contends, is relationships with other businesses in Beach through the Beach Chamber of Commerce. In particular, the association for the Dinner and a Movie program with restaurants La Playa and Crazy Charley’s encouraged attendees from distant locations. “It is important for people to know they can eat good food in Beach when they go out for an evening’s entertainment,” Culman declared.

Celebrations of the one year anniversary of the reopening of the BIJOU Show House in Beach, commence Friday, March 14, 2008, with the movie program at 7:30 p.m. selling half-price popcorn at the BIJOU Show House, 82 1st Street SE, Beach, ND, www.beach-movie.com.

BIJOU SHOW HOUSE CHOSEN FOR EXCLUSIVE ND ENGAGEMENT TO QUALIFY MOVIE FOR ACADEMY AWARDS

BEACH, ND – Movie distribution company, Outsider Pictures, invited the Bijou Show House to host the exclusive North Dakota Academy Awards (the Oscars) qualifying presentation of Raymond de Fellitta’s documentary film, “’Tis Autumn: The Search for Jackie Paris,” about top-rated Billboard singer, Jackie Paris. The program shows at the Bijou Show House, 82 1st Street SE, Beach, ND, at 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., November 9, 10 and 11, 2007.

The dates and times conform to requirements by the Academy of Film Arts and Sciences for consideration for the 2008 awards. To qualify, the movie must tour the USA, meaning play several states for two shows per day for three consecutive days, to demonstrate wide distribution to be considered for the world famous Oscars competition.

“I am thrilled to play this movie on two counts,” Bijou Show House owner, Emanuel Culman, exuded. “After years of working in the movie industry in Los Angeles, I had to move to North Dakota to participate in bringing a movie to the Oscars. The best part is this movie is about a jazz singer who started out with musicians from my favorite period – Be-Bop.”

Singer and guitarist Jackie Paris played with such greats as Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton, and Donald Byrd. He opened for notorious comedian, Lenny Bruce. Many of his recordings are regarded as standards. In the movie, Jackie Paris speaks about his meteoric rise and equally rapid career decline. Other personalities of note in the movie include Peter Bogdanovich, Harlan Ellison and Billy Vera.

Unrated, “’Tis Autumn: The Search for Jackie Paris” plays on either side of, “The Jane Austen Book Club,” rated PG-13. Each movie will be a separate showing with special $4.00 price for Jackie Paris. To support out-of-towners, La Playa restaurant will open all three days with Dinner-and-a-Movie specials: Friday – Halibut; Saturday – Carne Arsade Steak, and Sunday – Margarita Shrimp. The Bijou Show House returns to regular hours following this special Oscar’s event.
